**### *** THIS POST WAS FOR Version 29 and is now out of DATE! *****
What: This is the thread to discuss the Beta 1 release (and maybe subsequent beta releases) for Unity-Linux XFCE. This is a Beta release and that means stuff will be broken and may not work as expected. Some of these things are known and some will not be. Please report anything that may not look or feel right to you when testing this release. There will be places you will be asked to focus a bit on more with each beta release, but despite that particular area of focus please report anything and everything else you run across.
Where: Beta releases can be found here and findings should be posted in this thread. If your finding constitutes a major code change or an additional amount of packaging, there might be a subsequent post made in "Package Requests" area of this discussion board to let users know a new package has been added to the repos to use and test. There is also a place where we track bigger bugs and issues that may come into play here.
How: Testing doesn't have to be technical in nature. You don't have to know exactly how things work. In some cases just knowing what is expected or what should be expected and if that expected event happens or not is enough, and most people don't have issues deciphering such events. What is required is a clear (as much as you can be) description of the issue. We accept screenshots. If you are of a technical or even just curious nature, by all means dig in. Figure out what is happening and why, and then maybe even do some googling and leave some suggestions on how it can be fixed. To reiterate the point, we know that not everyone is technical, but to a certain degree everyone can leave constructive feedback despite their technical prowess.
The Beta 1 Release: Things we are looking for this release is just common functionality and suggestions. Common functionality would be the applications launch, there's an application that covers common desktop tasks and that there's somewhat of a consistent look and feel through out. Work has been done to place a bootloader (syslinux) image on the livecd, so that should be present and there's a minimalist Plymouth (boot progress) theme that should be present as well. Auto login of the liveuser should be working and install should be working as well. If you can, please install this Beta. Also if available install it on actual hardware, if for some reason physical hardware is not available testing with, VirtualBox, Qemu, or VMware is fine, but I'd like to get feedback from a wide range of installation mediums.
That's it for now, but please follow this thread for updates and progress. Thank you so much for playing a role in creating this project and this community!!
